Trilegiant’s History

Trilegiant is the premier membership and rewards company that offers of a variety of services and products related to entertainment, shopping, consumer protection, dental and health, and travel through its loyalty product businesses and membership club. Trilegiant has made a valuable impact in the lives of more than 100 million people all over America. With the company’s drive to provide great values, convenience, protection, and savings to consumers, Trilegiant lives up to its commitment of providing trusted quality services to Americans.

Trilegiant began way back in 1973. That year, Comp-U-Card (or CUC International) came into being through the vision of its founder Walter Forbes. Along with Comp-U-Card, a shopping service based on memberships, the business focused on its mail-order clubs such as Shopper’s Advantage, AutoVantage, and Traveler’s Advantage. Eventually, CUC was able to acquire the insurance and enhancement products of National Card Control Inc, Madison Financial Corporation, and Financial Institution Services.

In 1997, the company name became Cendant Corporation. The company’s US membership product and loyalty solutions products then became known as Trilegiant and Trilegiant Loyalty Solutions in 2001. The following year, Apollo Management was able to acquire Trilegiant and Progeny Marketing Innovations. In 2006, the company’s name officially became Affinion Group.

At present, Trilegiant/Affinion has 3,000 employees in America and in 14 European countries. The company has affinity partners that number to over 5,000. Its headquarters is located in Norwalk, Connecticut.
